Anyone can lay a slab. What separates a patio that’s still flat in ten years from one that’s rocking and cracking in two is entirely below the surface, excavation to the right depth, a properly compacted sub-base, and paving bedded and jointed correctly with a fall built in.
We’ve laid Indian sandstone patios in Coleford, built the garden wall Bob Harris left us a five-star review for, and put in retaining walls to hold back sloping gardens. Paths, walls and patios all get the same attention to what’s underneath.

Site visit
We look at levels, access and drainage, and give you an honest, itemised quote.

Dug out to the right depth for the sub-base, with falls set out from the start.

Hardcore laid and compacted in layers, and any retaining or garden walls built.

Paving bedded, cut in around edges and features, and joints pointed to finish.

Common questions
Patios & landscaping, answered
Because that’s what stops it moving. A patio laid straight onto soil or a thin scrape of hardcore will rock, sink and crack within a couple of winters. We excavate to depth, lay and compact the right thickness of sub-base, then bed the paving on that. It costs more in labour and takes longer, but it’s the difference between a patio that lasts and one that doesn’t.
Yes, it’s one of our most requested patio materials. We’ve laid Indian sandstone patios in Coleford and it holds up well to the Forest of Dean weather. We can also work with other natural stone or concrete paving if you’d rather.
Yes. Retaining walls need proper foundations and drainage behind them to cope with the water pressure, not just blocks stacked up. We’ve built retaining walls to level out sloping gardens and hold back banks that were creeping onto a patio or lawn.
Every patio and path we lay has a fall built into it, so surface water runs off to a drain, soakaway or border rather than sitting on the paving or running back towards the house. It’s worked out before a single slab goes down, not left to chance.
