Privacy policy

This website is run by Smiths&Co Building Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16521165, whose registered office is Unit 1 With Yard, Eastern United, Ruspidge, Gloucestershire, England, GL14 3AW.

For anything to do with your personal information, contact us at smiths.cobuilding@gmail.com or on 07956 757412. We are the data controller for that information.

When you fill in the quote form we collect the details you choose to give us: your name, phone number, email address if you add one, your town or postcode, which services you’ve ticked and whatever you write in the message box.

If you contact us by phone, WhatsApp or email instead, we hold whatever you send us in that message, including any photos of your property you choose to share.

Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, for security and to keep the site running. We don’t use those to identify individual visitors.

We use your details to reply to your enquiry, arrange a site visit, prepare a quote and, if you go ahead, carry out and invoice the work.

Under UK GDPR our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract when you ask us for a quote, and performance of a contract once you book work in. Where we keep records for tax and accounting we rely on legal obligation.

We don’t send marketing emails or newsletters, and we won’t add you to any mailing list.

We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone. It is shared only where it’s needed to do the job or run the site:

• Our website host receives and stores form submissions before forwarding them to us.
• Our email provider holds the enquiry emails we receive.
• WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to message us that way. Those messages are covered by WhatsApp’s own privacy terms as well as this policy.
• Google Fonts serves the typefaces used on this site, which means your browser connects to Google to fetch them.
• Trades and suppliers working on your job, where they genuinely need your address or contact details to attend site or deliver materials.
• Our accountant and HMRC, for invoices and tax records.

Enquiries that don’t turn into work are deleted once they’re clearly not going anywhere.

Where we’ve carried out work for you, we keep the job and invoice records for as long as tax law requires, which is currently six years after the end of the relevant accounting period.

This site sets no advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.

If you choose to install the site to your home screen, your browser stores a copy of the pages on your own device so it works offline. That copy stays on your device, isn’t sent to us, and disappears if you remove the site or clear your browser data.

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it if it’s wrong, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to us using it. You can also ask for it in a portable format.

Just email or ring us and we’ll sort it. There’s no charge, and we’ll respond within one month.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled things you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

If we change how we handle your information we’ll update this page and change the date at the top.
