The roof, and the carpentry that holds it up
A roof is only as good as the structure underneath it, so we treat roofing and carpentry as one job, not two. That means new rafters and ridge boards where the timber’s had it, a proper breather membrane and battening, and a covering of slate, tile or flat, fitted to last.
We built a stone porch with a slate roof that’s had people stopping to comment on it as they walk past, and Philip Beech’s review is about exactly that job. It’s the standard we hold every roof to, porch or full re-roof.
That standard doesn’t change whether it’s natural slate on a period cottage near the river in Newnham or one of the re-roofs we take on regularly alongside other work in Cinderford.

Structure to ridge tile, done as one job
From a single repair to a full strip-off and re-cover.
Re-roofs
Old covering stripped off, timbers checked and replaced where needed, and a new roof built up from the rafters.
Slate & tile
Natural slate, concrete or clay tile, laid to the right gauge and lap, matched to the property where it needs to be.
Felt & breather membrane
Modern breather membrane fitted under the covering, letting the roof space breathe while keeping the weather out.
Flat roofs
Extensions, garages and porches covered with a properly falled, watertight flat roof system.
Fascias, soffits & guttering
Timber or UPVC fascias and soffits fitted square, with guttering set to the correct fall so it actually drains.
Roof structure carpentry
Rafters, purlins and ridge boards repaired or replaced, and roof windows framed in and flashed watertight.

We get up on the roof, check the timbers and covering, and give you an honest quote.

Scaffold & strip
Access put up, and the old covering stripped off down to sound timber.

Rafters, purlins and battens repaired or replaced wherever the timber calls for it.

Breather membrane fitted, then slate, tile or flat covering laid and flashed in.

If it’s a handful of slipped or cracked tiles, a repair usually does the job. If the felt underneath is failing, the timbers are sagging, or repairs keep recurring in different spots, that’s normally the roof telling you it’s due a full strip and re-cover. We’ll tell you straight which one you actually need.
Yes. We’ve built a stone porch with a slate roof and re-roofed with both natural slate and concrete or clay tile, matching the existing covering where a property needs to keep its character.
It’s the modern felt layer under the tiles or slates that lets moisture vapour escape from the roof space while still keeping wind and rain out. Building regulations expect it on new and re-covered roofs, and it makes a real difference to how well the roof space breathes.
Yes, into pitched or flat roofs, including loft conversions and extensions. We form the structural opening, fit the window and flash it in properly, so it stays watertight.
